Scale Up Milwaukee is an action project focused on developing the entrepreneurial capacity in Milwaukee. It brings the policies, structures, programs together and fosters entrepreneurship. It is a powerful platform supporting the companies to grow in Milwaukee. The platform connects all of the formal and informal institutions into a synergistic ‘entrepreneurship ecosystem’ aligned around one common vision with many common as well as individual benefits.
The long-term strategy for Scale Up Milwaukee is to create an integrated effort to simultaneously impact six domains of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Milwaukee: Culture, Policy and Leadership, Finance, Human Capital, Markets, and Supports. The goal of phase one of the project will be to create a broad awareness among public and private leaders and stakeholders of what to do, a commitment to do it, and a plan of action. Scale Up ventures may be family businesses, start-ups, manufacturers, services, retailers, or tech companies.
Scale Up means increased growth of 5%, 25%, 50% or 100%. In the six-month pilot phase, Scale Up Milwaukee worked with more than 2,500 public and private leaders, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, investors and faculty members from across the region. Many ventures that participate in Scale Up programs find growth to be almost immediate and significant, with reported a median 25% additional growth which was directly attributed to the practical skills and lessons learned from the Scalerator program (an intense 6 month training program for business owners and key team members, as a part of the action project).
Scale Up Milwaukee takes a broad and inclusive view of entrepreneurship: any firm, regardless of age, sector, size and history, can in principle scale up.
